What You Permit, you Promote

My conversations with clients this month have focused on culture - and how we meaningfully create it as leaders.

Yes, there are ’town halls’, project updates, fireside chats, ‘ask the boss’ etc. type communication activities, and all of them have a value that can be measured in terms of impact and engagement.

And yet… culture gets built in the moments which are small, not just large; in the things which are not said, as well as the things which are stated clearly, in the behaviours which are seemingly small and new, not just those which are visible and often demonstrated.

Building a culture is a vast topic, but I am reminded of a phrase once shared with me which has resonated yet again.

‘What you permit; you promote.’

The question then becomes… how’s that working for your culture?
